E-mail Fraud Scams

Several international financial fraud scams have surfaced on e-mail and Internet sites around the country. Most of these scams involve a plea from a citizen in a foreign country looking for assistance in getting themselves and their finances out of that country.  As part of the scam, the sender will ask for the e-mail recipient’s bank account information and offer the recipient the opportunity to keep the interest that accrues on the deposit. However, once the recipient supplies his or her account information to sender via e-mail, all of the funds in the recipient’s account are withdrawn. 

Galena residents are encouraged to report these types of financial fraud scams to the United States Secret Service or the United States Postal Inspection Service. For more information, please visit the following Web sites:
