TripAdvisor names Galena one of America’s “Top Ten Charming Small Towns”
Vibrant tourist community of 3,500 in northwest Illinois appreciates recognition
GALENA, Ill. – A major, and very popular, website source for online travel advice, TripAdvisor, has named Galena as one of the top ten charming small towns/cities in America.
Galena successfully made the cut at number 10, joining the other iconic American communities of Carmel, Calif., Traverse City, Mich., Charlottesville, Va., Telluride, Colo., Cape May, N.J., Fredericksburg, Texas, Rockport, Mass., Camden, Maine, and Ashland, Ore.
Galena/Jo Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau director of sales & marketing Celestino Ruffini was extremely enthused with the latest recognition remarking that, “Northwest Illinois has always had a gem of a destination with Galena. Both nationally and regionally, recognition has been given to what the destination provides, but it is heartwarming to know that efforts in preserving this iconic piece of American history just as it was in the 1800s are regarded so highly. It is the commitment of residents, past and current, that have made this destination into what it is.”
The recognition as one of the most charming towns in America is another ‘feather in the cap’ for the destination. In addition to honor from TripAdvisor, Forbes Traveler labeled Galena as one of the top 20 prettiest towns in America in 2008. Galena, in 2004, was also recognized as one of the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Dozen Distinctive Destinations.
