TURNER HALL

For 130 years, Turner Hall has been enjoyed by Galena residents and visitors as a venue for a variety of social, musical and theatrical events. Turner Hall is owned and operated by the City of Galena and may be rented for weddings, plays, concerts and other types of special events.

PARK RESERVATION FEE SCHEDULE

Fees are the same for residents and non-residents. Park facilities may be rented for weddings, family reunions, birthday parties, church groups, class reunions, picnics and other gatherings. Rental rates for the respective parks and facilities are listed below. One-half of the rental fee will be refunded if the facility is clean and undamaged following rental use.

A $500.00 fee will be charged to any user who erects a tent in any park. The user will be refunded $250.00 if the area is clean and undamaged following rental use

Tents may not be set up more than 24 hours ahead of the event and must be taken down not later than the day following the event.

Music audible beyond the confines of the park is not permitted after 10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 9:00 p.m. Sunday – Thursday.

Special large events in the parks require approval by the City Council and may be charged special usage fees above the posted fees.

Refunds will be returned by mail after City Council approval. City Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of every month. Refund checks are mailed not later than the Thursday after the meeting.

 

ALICE T. VIRTUE MEMORIAL WATER PARK

Constructed in 1987 with a $350,000 renovation in 2005, the Alice T. Virtue Memorial Water Park offers residents and visitors outstanding and well kept water park amenities in a picturesque setting.   The large zero depth main pool is complimented by a waterslide, a drop slide, a diving board, a zero depth children's pool, picnic shelters, deck chairs and loungers and a full menu concession stand.

The City offers American Red Cross certified swimming lessons for infants through adults beginning in June of each year.   Click here for the Swimming Lessons Schedule and the Swimming Lessons Registration.

GALENA RIVER BIKE TRAIL

The Galena River Trail was opened in 2005 and offers 3.4 miles of scenic hiking, biking or cross country skiing for users.   The crushed rock trail is open to the public at no cost.   Parking is available at the trailhead.   Please be sure to read the signs as you enter the parking area as a parking fee may be applicable depending on the time of day.   Permits that allow free parking at the trailhead are available by visiting or calling City Hall at 815-777-1050.

Originating from Depot Park just below the U.S. 20 Highway Bridge, the forested trail winds south to Galena Junction and the backwaters of the Mississippi River.   At the junction, it is not uncommon to obtain a close view of a passing train.
