The City of Galena residential garbage and recycling collection provided by Montgomery Trucking will soon be converted to an automated system that will require residents to use new garbage and recycling roll carts that can be mechanically lifted and dumped into collection trucks. With the change to the roll carts, new collection schedules for garbage and recycling will be implemented starting the week of December 18.
Montgomery Trucking will provide two 65-gallon roll carts to each household, one labeled for garbage and the other for recycling. The carts are expected to be delivered to residences the week of December 11. Once residents receive the new roll carts, they can be used starting the following week (December 18) for curbside garbage and recycling collection.
With the new automated system, the collection days and routes are being changed for efficiency. A map will be available on this page beginning the week of December 4 to allow you to determine your weekly garbage collection day (either Tuesday or Wednesday) and every other week recycling collection days. As the map will show, there is now an A day and a B day for recycling collection. Each residence is either an A day or a B day. A chart showing the A and B recycling collection days for 2023-24 is available below. A new magnet showing recycling collection days will be available at City Hall after January 1. The previously issued magnet for 2024 is no longer accurate.
