Pam Bernstein grew up in Wilson, New York—a small town on Lake Ontario. She received a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Baldwin-Wallace College and then pursued graduate studies at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Pam worked as a writer and editor at the University of Illinois at Chicago from 1980–1985. Since then she has worked as a freelance writer and editor, mostly for educational publishers.

Pam and her husband, Simon, moved to Galena in 1995, where she has served on the boards of the Galena Artists’ Guild, the Galena Community Garden, and the Galena Public Library. She enjoys reading, cooking, and walking her dog.
