Overview
The City of Galena utilizes the CodeRED Emergency Notification System, a high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications and other important public messages. This system allows local officials to telephone all or targeted areas of the city or the Galena Rural Fire Protection District in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action. CodeRED is also used to notify residents of other important issues such as water main breaks, boil orders, and snow removal requiring no parking. The City of Galena recommends that all residents register with CodeRED. There is no cost to participate. Click here to register for CodeRED!
Registration and Updating
Residents with unlisted phone numbers, anyone who has changed his or her phone number or address within the last year, and anyone who uses a cellular phone as their primary phone number should register their number with the service to ensure their number is in the database. Residents can also add an alternate number, such as a cellular phone, to their record if they wish. Providing an alternate phone number will cause both the primary and alternate phone numbers to be contacted in the event a call goes out for the address specified.

Weather Warning System
City of Galena residents may also sign up for CodeRED Weather Warning while signing up for CodeRED. The CodeRED Weather Warning will automatically call citizens when severe weather (tornado, flash flood, severe thunderstorm, and winter storm) warnings are issued by the National Weather Service for your address. Mobile Alert App
The CodeRed Mobile Alert app taps into the national CodeRed Emergency Notification System and alerts iPhone and Android Subscribers located within a given notification area. The app is geo-ware, so no matter where you are when an alert is issued, you will receive notifications that affect you - directly to your mobile device.
