Now that spring is here and residents are working in their yards, the City of Galena’s old landfill site on Donegan Street is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The site will remain open daily through mid-May, at which time it will return to being open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday during the same hours.
Trees, branches, brush, leaves, and grass are accepted at the site. Residents are responsible for transporting and unloading the debris. No garbage or other materials are accepted at the facility. Note that only landscaping debris generated on properties in the City of Galena and transported by the owner of the property where the debris was generated is accepted at the landfill. State law prohibits contractors from depositing landscape debris or any other materials at the old landfill site. No garbage, lumber or other materials are accepted at the facility.
