The Illinois Department of Transportation announced recently that weather permitting, construction on the bridge carrying U.S. 20/Illinois 84 across the Galena River will begin Monday, May 4.
Work will patch the bridge deck. One lane will be open in the work zone controlled by temporary traffic signals. The bridge also will be open to pedestrian traffic throughout the project.
Work be suspended and all lanes will be open during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Lane closures will resume after the holiday and the project is expected to be completed by the end of June.
Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zone areas, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
