Duty and Purpose
The Planning Commission works with the public, the consultant and city staff in the preparation of the Comprehensive Plan. The Planning Commission is statutorily required to recommend the plan to the City Council for review and approval.
The Planning Commission is also described in Chapter 33.25 of the Galena Code of Ordinances as follows:

Five members

Appointed by mayor with approval of the City Council

One‐year terms (April 30‐May 1)

Members of the Zoning Board may also serve on the Planning Commission

Members serve without compensation

Commission shall have all powers conferred by the state statutes
Members of the Planning Commission are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.
