The City of Galena garbage collection system is structured to encourage recycling and limit the amount of refuse landfilled. The system is based on the principles of “pay as you throw” whereby the more refuse a resident produces the more they pay for collection and landfilling. Each resident is limited to curbside disposal of one 65 gallon container, not to exceed 40 pounds, per week. Special tags must be purchased for each additional container.
