A Comprehensive Plan is a blueprint for the future. It is a community vision that guides Galena for the next 20 years. The Comprehensive Plan can lead to potential strategies that will help effectively guide Galena's leaders as they make substantive and thoughtful decisions for the community.
The Contents of a Comprehensive Plan
The Comprehensive Plan outlines Galena's existing conditions, describes future goals and objectives for development, and includes an action plan on how to achieve these goals and objectives. The Galena Comprehensive Plan addresses the following topics:

- Residential Areas
- Commercial and Industrial Areas
- Transportation
- Community Facilities and Public Infrastructure (including parks and open spaces)
- Subarea Plans
Who was involved in creating the Comprehensive Plan?
The City involved residents, business owners, key stakeholders, community leaders, and elected officials in the process to craft a community vision for Galena's future. Ultimately, the Joint Committee - City Council and Planning Commission approved and adopted the Comprehensive Plan.
What is the Planning Commission?
In accordance with Illinois law, the Planning Commission is a group of five residents appointed by the mayor and with the consent of the city council to guide the planning process. The Planning Commission consists of the following individuals:
