Mulch
The Public Works Department shreds downed trees and branches into mulch. The city also receives mulch from utility companies when they are clearing under power lines. The mulch is piled at the old city landfill on Donegan Street.
Mulch is available to residents at no cost subject to availability. The resident is responsible for loading and transporting the mulch. The old landfill site is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please contact City Hall at 815.777.1050 with questions.
Bricks
Purington Paver bricks are also piled at the old city landfill. The bricks were recovered from Galena streets during street reconstruction projects. Bricks are available for purchase by the public at the following costs:

$.95 per brick up to 1,000 bricks

$.85 per brick for 1,001-10,000 bricks

$.75 per brick for more than 10,000 bricks
Persons wishing to purchase bricks should make payment at City Hall prior to collecting the bricks. Credit card payments are accepted by phone at 815-777-1050.
