2026 Recycling Calendars Now Available
The 2026 City of Galena recycling magnets are now available at Galena City Hall, 101 Green St. The magnets are free for residents.
Free Yard Waste Pickup Tuesdays in November
GALENA—Now that fall is here and residents are working in their yards, the City of Galena is offering curbside yard waste pick up each Tuesday in November. For pick up, call Galena City Hall at 815-777-1050 before noon on Monday.
Prescribed Burns Planned for Gateway Park
This fall, the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation and City of Galena will utilize prescribed fire to manage the prairies and savannas of Galena Gateway Park. Be prepared to see burn crews at various times during the next few weeks. Please note, Gateway Park trails will be closed when burning is actively taking place.

Weather and conditions permitting, the City of Galena fall open burn dates are Thursday, Nov. 13-Sunday, Nov. 16. Rain dates are Thursday, Nov. 20-Sunday, Nov. 23.

Reminder: No plastic bags in recycling containers
The City of Galena is reminding residents that plastic bags are not recyclable through the curbside collection program. Avoid placing recyclable items in plastic bags -- garbage bags, grocery bags, etc. -- in the curbside collection cart. Montgomery Trucking will not pick up recycling in any sort of plastic bag.
Plastic bags can be dropped off for recycling at Tammy's Piggly Wiggly and Walmart in Galena.
